My biggest concerns are that many people say it is hard to meet new people and of course coming from sunny southern california the rain. Any advice would help. I'd particularly like to hear from anyone from LA who moved to seattle.I live in Los Angeles and am considering moving to Seattle. Any opinions on weather and meeting new people?
I live in Seattle, don't move here, it rains all the time, traffic is horrid and we don't need anymore californians moving here!
Seattle is a great town with lots of history. It was the gateway to Alaska during the klondike gold rush. Some argue the term "skidrow" was coined there when they use to skid logs down the hill into Elliot Bay. Later, at the turn of the century derilicts and prostitutes frequented the area and the term stayed.
The weather is misty and/or rainy and cool. The summers are awesome. Tacoma has a lot to offer and the housing prices are more affordable, but if you have to commute to Seattle it's as bad as LA.
Don't tell anyone you're from California, they hate us up there. We get the blame for driving up the cost of median priced homes. I found that people are generally friendly if you start the conversation.
Check out Pike Place Market in Seattle and El Puerco Lloron on the hill climb behind the market for great mexican food.
In Tacoma, visit Ruston Way and The Spar Restaurant and Pub for great chicken and mojos. It overlooks Commencement Bay. Beware the Tacoma Aroma on hot days from the pulp mills.
I lived in Tacoma for 4 years and fell in love with Washington. I would love to live there again.I live in Los Angeles and am considering moving to Seattle. Any opinions on weather and meeting new people?
Seattle is my favorite city -- way cooler than LA (sorry, dude). It really doesn;t rain that much. It's just cloudy %26amp; drizzly alot from Oct to May.
You'll love it. I think it's just as friendly as CA -- maybe more so. I hope you like coffee!
First off, you REALLY have to think about the weather.
1. it rains A TON here. most ppl know that.
2. It annoyingly rains on weekends and is sunny during the work week. -_-
3. we rarely have a white Christmas.
4. If we have a wet winter, we'll have a really hot summer. If we have a dry winter, we'll have a wet summer.
5. the average temp. is 65 for high, low is about 55 or 40 something.
This is a place of mild weather. Since your coming from LA it might supprise you just how darn cold it really does get year round. For someone coming from a hot weather climate, I'd say don't live here unless you know for sure. The people I know who've come from the South hate it here.
As for where to meet ppl, my only answer is the clubs.
If you like rap/hip-hop music, try listening to 106.1 and finding out where their DJs are meeting, you can usually get an a guest list or VIP list by calling the station.
If you can stand the weather this is a great city and a pretty good place to live.I live in Los Angeles and am considering moving to Seattle. Any opinions on weather and meeting new people?
I lived in Southeren Calif. for around twenty years before coming back to the Seattle area. It does rain quite a bit here but what can you expect from the "Evergreen State". It gets pretty cool at times. As far as the people, like anywhere else you just have to go out and meet them. People are people the world over and if you stay inside and hibernate you'll never meet anyone so-o-o wherever you decide to go---mingle.
Well, apart from the abnormal weather up in Seattle, you have to watch out for purists. Purists are those who believe only native Seattle people should live in Seattle. Don't say you're from California, just say you're from Everett or somewhere in Washington. You might want to start conversations at coffee shops and clubs. Talk to people who are friendly-looking and remember them, because LA is much larger than Seattle, and you're bound to see at least some of them again. One last tip. ALWAYS BRING AN UMBRELLA. It doesn't matter what kind of umbrella (though it's normally better to have a collapsable one, because on sunny days tourists will look at you funny), just bring one in case of sudden rainfall.
I moved from SF to seattle and had a really hard time with the weather. People are more like people from No. Cal, meaning they are more educated, cultured and snotty sometimes. Clothing is very muted and layered and bookishly "hip" with the lingering effects of grunge. Being smaller than LA I thought it was easy to meet people but it's a lot of club, nightlife stuff and smoking and hanging out. People like to go to theatre and clutural events. I would have stayed but for the horrible traffic (only one major freeway in town) and the damn rain.
It's hard to meet new people any time you move somewhere new. Assuming that you'll be getting a job, that's always a good place to start meeting new people, as are church if that's your thing, and any place or activity that interests you (if you love to hike, go hiking and you're bound to meet people who have at least that in common with you.)
I moved here from LA 16 years ago and I absolutely love it here. However, I'd lived in the area prior to living in California so I knew what to expect weather-wise. Yes, it rains a lot. Inches-wise it's a lot less than people think and there are many US cities that get more. We get the reputation simply because it rains more or less year 'round (July and August are typically pretty dry.) It's usually drizzle and it's often overcast even when it's not drizzling. When the sun is out, though, Seattle is gorgeous.
The weather is gORgeOUs in the summer, all 12 days of it. No, seriously, most years, May through September is really nice. The rest of the year can get drizzly and damp but you can adjust well enough.
Yes, it can be kind of hard to meet up. People are surface friendly, but it is hard to really connect. Took me awhile, but now I really like being here. (I also am a southern Cal person, and my first winter here I almost left.)
my brother in law lived in san francisco, and moved to seattle about 20 years ago, and he loves it there. i have visited there several times, and i really like it as well, and considered moving there myself at one time.
the weather is crappy but the city is very beautiful!
As long as you work inside and dont mind the rain and fog most of the time you should be fine. As far as meeting new people start with a local church and go from there.
DO NOT MOVE HERE the weather is crazy one second it's hailing the next it's gonna be like your in hawaii, trust me stay there, i would move to la if i could
It would be hard to move from your nice weather to rainy seattle. Both are busy cities with bad traffic. Instead of surfer dudes you meet grunge rockers who love Starbucks. I would rather be in Cali.
I live in a southernish place, hot and very little rain, and I LOVE Seattle. I want to move there... Yeah, there is tons of rain. Expect rain all the time. Go visit, you麓ll see. I wouldn麓t know about meeting people, but in general, I think people from northern places are more friendly than those from southern places. It麓s probably the same to meet people there as it is in other places.
The people of Seattle are diverse and colorful, friendly (usually) - but it rains here about 9 months out of every year, the sky is usually cloudy and grey, except in July and August! Seattlites love meeting California-folk! There's lots of things to do in Seattle- always something going on, something to see, it's great, despite the cloudy-weather.
