Do you think that asking someone what they do for a living when meeting them is ok?

What would you say?Do you think that asking someone what they do for a living when meeting them is ok?
He he he! ((Birdy))

Ever see that episode of 'That 70's show' when Red is unemployed? They're at a party, and someone asks him "So, what do you do?" Red replied "About what?"- LOL.

I agree with the conceited bahstid whom first responded. I suppose it's okay to ask that question when you meet someone, but not immediately after having met them. Actually, I don't like that question- but I scrub toilets for a living, so I guess that's to be expected. : )
Yeah, its okay. Just don't walk into the door and say it though.

You- "Hi, nice to meet you."

Them- somethingthingthingthing

Once you sit down and have dinner or something then you ask

You- "So, you have a lovely house, what do you do for a living?" Compliment them alot too : ]Do you think that asking someone what they do for a living when meeting them is ok?
It depends. I wouldn't do it right away. I think it can be nosy and prying. I hate that about a person and I hate that when I do it even unintentionally. If I meet someone and they start in to the car, house, job - all the materials that I have thing right away - they get put on my mental X list.
Sure. It's an obvious conversation starter.

%26lt;---he would say "Well, I'm looking for work currently. What do you do?"Do you think that asking someone what they do for a living when meeting them is ok?
It depends on the situation. I have asked it and I have answered it. It really depends on the situation
one usually gets a pretty good sense of that while conversing... much depends on the dynamics between you and the other,,

but it is kinda soon to ask yes!
i think it is ok too ask that kind of question because some one ask me that question everyday.
No, it's annoying......If you're rude to me, I'mma be rude to you too so I could ignore em or tell em it's none of their business (I might not say that literally)
not right away

like "hello good to meet you."

"yeah, so what do you do for a living?"
not right when meeting someone first ..
yeah thats fine

unless they are secret agents like me:)

shoot. I just had to say that

jk.
yes, I think that is ok and good to know.
Yes, it's good small talk.

I'm a student, how about you?
I'm a theatre nurse - man can I tell you some stories lol
