I work in and live in Plymouth Meeting, PA. As per the rules, anyone who works in Plymouth Meeting, irrespective of being a resident or not, has to pay 1% tax on salary. This is understood well. However now, I want to rent an apartment which falls under Philadelphia. Will I have to pay any additional taxes just because I am renting a place in Philly?
Thanks! Will I have to pay additional taxes if I live in rented apartment in Philadelphia?
Dear DR: The rules of Philly govern this issue. The Phil dept of taxation can be reached at 215-516-2000/customer service.
Normally you will pay tax to Plymouth Meeting and then Philly will give you a credit against their tax rate and you are not taxed twice. Seek advice form someone in Philly as they will be familiar with the rules in their city.
This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided. Click on my profile to read more. Errol Quinn Enrolled Agent
