Free IEP Advocate in CAWhere can I find a free advocate for IEP meeting? I live in California, and my son is 6 year old with autism.?
Look for an organization like the Autism Society. Even if you contact a national group chances are they would have local chapters. Even if you cannot get an advocat bringing someone with you to take notes so that you can listen to what is said will be helpful.

I am not sure why you think you need one - do you think it will be contentious - do you panic in these kind of situations - are you afraid that you would be missing some service without one. More information and we could help with some ideas. CA is a big state so what part of the state would also be helpful.

You're right to bring an advocate...schools are businesses and sometimes do cut corners. Get all the help you can for your child. You could ask your pediatrician if he/she has any ideas for services you could request. Good luck, I hope this contact information can set you up with an advocate in your area! :)Where can I find a free advocate for IEP meeting? When you received the invitation to the IEP meeting, you should have also gotten a Parent Rights Statement. Look in there for names and numbers of advocate agencies. Otherwise, call the Special education director and ask. They will tell you. It is their job.
