Is it acceptable to be someone you're not when meeting a stranger?

Like giving a fake name/age/phone number/where you live. Things like that? Do you think that is acceptable when meeting a complete stranger, on person or online?

I believe it is because there is so much information someone can find out just by you're name, and since they are a stranger they could also very well be a murder/stalker/pedophile etc.Is it acceptable to be someone you're not when meeting a stranger?
There are some people so creepy I wouldn't tell them what time it was. Clearly personal information is something you don't give to just anybody. If they won't take no for an answer, then by all means give them incorrect information. You don't owe them a damn thing.
OK Why on earth would someone likely be a murder/stalker pedophile? At what time in this f'ed up world did having one single name, first and last, dissapear? First last names went, and you can't even expect to get one from a human being, now you're going to lie to someone, like a beginner sociopath, because of the off chance they may have bodies hidden in their basement?

Just give true name, true age - you don't ever have to give phone numbers or addresses unless you want to. But don't lie about it. (if someone's hitting on you, you can give a fake phone)

It's more weird to look someone in the face and light of day and say "i'm thirteen" when you're nineteen and "my name's Benjamin Braddock" rather than you honest given name.Is it acceptable to be someone you're not when meeting a stranger?
Sure, of course it is. Unless you are pretending to be a totally different person in order to gain something, it shouldn't matter what you call yourself.
If it is entertaining and positive experience for you than I would say go for it. It also sounds like it might help develop creativity. As long as your not pretending to be a doctor or someone of authority!!Is it acceptable to be someone you're not when meeting a stranger?
Well girls did that to me, all the time. even my one my freinds did that to me, when we were young. Perfectly normal to mistrust people the first time around
Well I am sure you answered your own question.!
yes as long as its not a coworker or someone you ha ve to deal with in the future.
