What Percentage Of Americans Live In Extreme Poverty?

According to the World Bank this is the the definition of extreme poverty

Is the most severe state of poverty. Many cannot meet basic needs for food, water, shelter, sanitation, and health care. To determine the affected population, the World Bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than USD $1.25 per day (adjusted for PPP). The World Bank estimates that 1.4 billion people currently live under these conditions.

Using the World Bank's definition of extreme poverty, what percentage of Americans would qualify as living under extreme poverty ?What Percentage Of Americans Live In Extreme Poverty?
People in America that fit that billing do live in the KY and W.VA area. They still use out houses and wells to get drinking water, etc....My pastor was telling my church of such people just a few years ago. This is just one reason I call Obama and the DNC a bunch of pathological liars because the very people they claim they will help, they never do. They never have had any intentions of doing so from the beginning. This is why the liberal media never makes reference to these people so they never expose their god for who he really is.
That's a good one. I would venture a guess as 1%-2%. We still have them in this region, but the communities usually build them houses as quickly as they can, they're often elderly who've just escaped the community's attention through the years. The population here is very spread out so only a fraction of our residents have close neighbors.

Most live in structures that were built long before 1940. They don't have indoor plumbing, poor insulation, and dangerous living conditions. All are currently in the situation of deciding between food or utilities. It's horrible.Social Security does not take care of their needs. A family friend makes a whopping $375. A lot of them were mothers whose husbands left them to raise the kids. They raised the kids, the kids moved off, and they have no working history to draw from. Or, the kids are deceased.

I'd say there are similar circumstances in rural locations nationwide. What Percentage Of Americans Live In Extreme Poverty?
Hey kiddo, since food/water/shelter/sanitation/health care have a higher cost in this country, the $1.25 thing needs to be increased to the cover the costs of these things in THIS COUNTRY.

As far as an actual statistical number, don't know. We don't even have the true number of unemployed in this country, because once you stop collecting unemployment benefits (or if you are terminated and can't collect them), you are not considered in the unemployed statistic. So the unemployment rate drops when people can no longer collect unemployment, NOT when they get a job.
Everybody who is on welfare. They receive about 476 a month. Divide that by $/day and ask yourself if they are really making it. Try to pay for housing, transportation, food and insurance Medical or auto with that along with utilities. This all in the US where life is very expensive. There is a lot of homeless in the US but they are mostly ignored. It is all very relative to where you live.
@andy: I am sorry to tell you, you are in complete denial about your fellow Americans.

Those who believe differently are in the same place as andy. What Percentage Of Americans Live In Extreme Poverty?
The US definition of "extreme poverty" is a family living on less than half the poverty line, or about $10,000/year for a family of four. That's about $6.50 a day per person.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development states that there are currently 17 million Americans living in that kind of poverty.

Appalling.
I would say zero. Not even the panhandlers live on this little. With welfare and government aid to those in need, our poor are middle class at minimum every where else except Western Europe and a few other Nations.

Even China is seeing their average hourly rate move around $5 USD per hour.
I say probably 5% live in extreme Poverty, but 15 to 20 percent live below the Poverty Line.

Some people are one paycheck from becoming homeless, others have to decide whether to pay the Electric Bill or purchase Groceries.
The poorest Americans are among the richest people in the world. Most Americans have no clue what poor really is.
With all its resources and assets, no one in America deserves this version of poverty.
Less than one-half of one percent...and in most cases it's voluntary.
All the lazy ones who can't get off their a55 to go get a job, even a simple labor one.
There is no way of knowing if a person lives as you post in America it is by choice
many more than most realize, it's not good for : votes, selling things, or national morale
How about the legal immigrants?
O%
In terms of intelligence, nearly all conservatives live not just in poverty, but in severe debt.
