Where should a single woman in her forties live in the San Francisco Bay Area?

My mom is being relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area and wants to live in a fun, active place while being able to meet other corporate/established, straight singles such as herself. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!Where should a single woman in her forties live in the San Francisco Bay Area?
Yes, I agree. The best job by commuting, would be a job close to bart. I drive, but willing to take bart but never the stinky bus..
If she will be commuting all around the bay San Francisco is the most central location. It is geared more toward single people than toward families. I've lived off and on as a single woman since I came here and always appreciated the diverse opportunities for art, culture, entertainment, food and drink.

The following neighborhoods offer the most bang for the buck though parking in North Beach is almost impossible.

Laurel Village

North Beach

SOMA

NOPA

Marina

It would help to know where her job is going to be - commutes in the Bay Area can be pretty bad, so it makes a difference where her job is.

For what it's worth, my mom is in the same situation, and she has met a lot of people with similar interests while living in the Menlo Park/Palo Alto area. She also works there, and it wouldn't make sense to live there if she worked in, say, Concord or Novato.
The Bay Area is a pretty huge place (nine counties, 100 cities).

If you could be more specific about where she's working, we could give you better info.Where should a single woman in her forties live in the San Francisco Bay Area?
San Francisco is incredibly expensive. The question is how much she can afford. If she wants to live where there is a lot going on, the had better be prepared to spend over $2000 a month. Otherwise she will have to live in an East Bay bedroom community, 2 hours away from the city.
Just over the Golden Gate bridge is a town of Sausalito. It is primarily inhabited by artists and rich divorced women. They are all very active and have mulitple clubs from gardening, to gambling to skiing and touring and reading and broadway. The Sausalito Yacht Club is a center of activity for the over 30, single set. You do not need to own a yacht to belong. They also have town roasts, travels, and events to meet, greet and participate. Also, it is a 20 minute ride to anywhere in San Francisco from Sausalito by car, or 30 minutes by ferry that operates every hour.
