Is it better to live in an on campus appartment or a dorm freshman year?

The apartments are $200 more than a dorm. Is it harder to meet people if you live in an appartment?

The school I'm considering has 10 colleges to affiliate with and the college I'm most drawn to only has appartments. Is it better to live in an on campus appartment or a dorm freshman year?
As long as it is still on campus, I do not see the difference between apartment and a dorm as far as socialization goes.

How many people live in an apartment on your campus? Are rooms shared? If rooms are shared, I do not see any difference between dorms and apartments in any way.

As you become older, you will eventually want the privacy that an apartment offers over the dorms - but likely, you are not there yet.

$200 is a pretty decent chunk of cash though... So if I were you I'd go to the dorms, for now and move to the apartments by my Junior year or so.
dorms are the best way to live freshman year

its the easiest to meet people!

you have the rest of your life to live in an apartment, right? why miss out on the most quintesssential part of college life- dorm living? Is it better to live in an on campus appartment or a dorm freshman year?
dorm
I would say live in a dorm, because you will have a roomate that could become your very best friend. this is also a better way to meet alot of new people. Is it better to live in an on campus appartment or a dorm freshman year?
wow really?

you must have picked up some NICE aparement... usually it's the other way around

(oh and... live in dorm... ask everyone and they will all tell you the same thing. as for meet people... that's up to your personality. i'd seen some lonely people in my dorm.)
I would say dorm, it gets you time to get adjusted to the campus, you will meet more people in the dorm, and sometimes apartments are not in the safest neighborhoods. The cost is another factor the dorm is cheaper, you have less of a commute to your classes which saves money. Go dorm your first year....
Beyond a doubt, live in the dorm the first year in college! How else will you get to know ppl your freshman year? It's difficult to start up "lets run through Wendy's together"! conversations if you are only in a classroom setting. It's also easier to find out what's going on on campus, word of mouth and bulletin boards. You want to get involved! Students are happier if they get involved as soon as possible. You will never forget your Freshman year dorm experience!

Plenty of time for that college fraternity house/apartment/house off campus experience!

Oh and, It's also harder to find a parking place driving into campus!
I lived Off Campus my first year and regretted it ever since. It is difficult meeting people in apartments off campus, because there are no social events that can really help you meet any of your neighbors, if your neighbors are students. Plus, they will all be older than you. Dorms usually have extensive orientation programs that involve activities and parties to help you get to know other students. It will be a great way to find people who are in your major or who share similar interests. Go in the dorms, it may be an uncomfortable year in terms of luxury and space, but you'll meet people who will change your life!

HOWEVER, if you are interested in a specific college don't let the apartment life scare you. If the apartments are affiliated with the university, or if all the students in that college live at a specific complex, you might be able to consider those apartments as off-campus dorms. If the school is organizing your housing situation, they will most likely also be hosting/facilitating the social orientation programs I mentioned before. You will still be able to meet people, albiet a smaller pool of people, but it should still be a lot of fun!

(BTW, you aren't going to UCSD are you?)
