In general previous posters are correct. Generally fresh water fish and salt water fish don't intermingle. Where the fresh water and salt water meet you will get some interaction.
But don't forget there are exceptions. The Bull Shark has been found hundreds of miles up rivers. So they will encounter fresh water fish and people (fresh water people?)
Eels spawn in salt water but live most of their lives in fresh water. They then return to the ocean to reproduce on a regular basis.
I'm sure there are other examples as well. What place do live fresh water fish and live salt water fish meet?
Anywhere fresh water meets salt water. But fish that are strictly fresh water will never encounter strictly salt water fish. The deltas and other tidal zones are occupied by niche species who have adapted to both fresh and salt water. What place do live fresh water fish and live salt water fish meet?
Brackish water.
