Can you ship live animals in the mail?

Can you send live animals (3 ferrets) through Fed Ex or Ups or some other mail transport service? Or can you ship them on a plane and is it expensive? I am giving them to a friend in another state but driving distance one way just meeting in the middle is about a 11 hour drive. Can you ship live animals in the mail?
think about it. If you were one of them would you like to be boxed up and shipped away? They could die in the way there. Can you ship live animals in the mail?
No, you can't. The way packages are tossed and dropped and turned upside down and sit in a warehouse - come on. Use your common sense.

Shipping a live animal would require a specialty service, someone who will transport the animals for you with regard to their care and welfare. Try looking in the yellow pages under specialy shipping or animal services.

But the expense is going to be great. Consider finding them a home locally. Can you ship live animals in the mail?
UPS does ship animals but it tends to be an expensive proposition. USPS also does ship live animals but they tend to be a lot more restrictive in their list.

There are packaging specifications and climate control requirements that each carrier requires different degrees of packaging.

Yes, several airlines (American, Continental) do ship animals, and may cost $50 to $100 excluding packaging. (The cost is unverified)
